You could cook a multitude of things on a BBQ, it’s all trial and error, and thats the beauty of barbecuing, so we’ve found some unusual fruits & veg to barbecue that people have tried that we thought were a bit of an acquired taste. We thought we’d share them with you, to see if you have what it takes to do it yourselves!
This sweet, juicy summer treat could be the delight of your BBQs. Grilling the watermelon will offer a caramelized taste with an added smokey bite. You could even experiment with some seasoning to give the watermelon more flavour. Adding some brown sugar will give the watermelon an even more caramelized taste and with some lime zest will balance out the sweetness.
Putting a bunch of grapes on a BBQ does seem a bit peculiar, but it gives them an added smokey taste and is extremely easy to do (as long as you keep the grapes in one bunch). The heat from the BBQ leads to the grapes adopting a more jam-like taste and texture. We recommend drizzling some balsamic vinegar over the top for some extra flavour. Why not try this with different types of grapes and see which works best?
Another great dessert to do on the BBQ could be melted chocolate within a banana. By slicing open the banana and placing a few squares of chocolate, you could make your own delicious dessert. It’s best to wrap the bananas in tin foil before placing them o the BBQ to ensure all the contents is contained. Once the skin of the bananas has turned black, you know they’ll be cooked through and ready to enjoy.
It often appears in the salad bowl, so why not try it on the BBQ? The BBQ will add some extra crunch to the lettuce. With a sprinkling of parmesan cheese, these could be a lovely warm way to enjoy the healthier side of the party.
This trendy fruit often appears at picnics and barbecues in salads so why not try it on the grill? This is another food that would be easy to do and take hardly any time to be ready. Once cooked, you could add it to a salad, or mash it up and enjoy it on some toast (which you could also do on the grill).
Flavoured with some cinnamon these could be a delight. The caramelized sweetness would please any sweet tooth at your BBQ. Served with some fresh cream, these could be a fantastic addition to the grill.
Traditionally a Christmas dinner vegetable, but could it also find its place at your summer BBQ? With a pinch of salt and pepper and a drizzling of olive oil, this could be a fantastic way to enjoy these vegetables. Adding some parmesan cheese on top could give the sprouts an extra special taste.
